PIMPINONE! Season opening concerts

Corelli Music concert agency is starting its 16th year of activity. Our season will be opened collaborating with Opera Veto opera studio. Together we bring into life a comic opera "Pimpinone" by German composer Georg Philipp Telemann.

These season opening concerts in Anija, Saka and Pootsi manor offer a genuine experience of a music salon in the baroque period - back then comic opera was not played as an independent ouvre, but it was mixed with works by other composers. This was the time when comic opera was making its first steps to become independent from opera seria.

Besides the enjoyment of music, the audience can experience the wonderful interieurs of our decorous locations.

Director Auri Jürna: „Telemann's „Pimpinone" is a story of a maid and his new superior. It is a classical story of an ambitious and clever underling and a good-natured and credulous richman. They meet with equal but different hopes. In the end of the story one of them is victorious and happy while the other feels disappointed and submissive. The aim of this performance is to stress the virtuous, multiplex, dramatic music.

Staging is trying to show the characters almost as puppets or painted one dimensional figures whose humanness will eventually win you to the one side or the other. Who was right? Who won? Who hurt the other?"

As a Pimpinone audience will see Atlan Karp who is the laureate of the Annual Estonian Theatre Award in 2019 and Vespetta will be brought to life by a young soprano Anneliis Volmer. Baroque ensemble Corelli Consort will perform on period instruments. Auri Jürna is an Estonian stage director and theater critic. She has staged many professional and amateur theaters. Since the year of 2016 she has been working in Estonian National Opera as a production assistant. The vocal coach of singers is Toomas Kaldaru who mainly works and resides in Rome.

Opera Veto was founded in 2017 by three Estonian singers - Aule Urb (mezzo-soprano), Atlan Karp (baritone) and Aivar Kaseste (tenor). The main goal of this opera studio is to stage less known and forgotten chamber operas and give Estonian singers a chance for performing and self-improving. The biggest work so far has been the short opera "Susanna's secret" (Il segreto di Susanna) by E.W. Ferrari (1876-1948) staged by Thomas Wiedenhofer (Germany).
