STABAT MATER – Church Holidays in the Land of Mary
Corelli Music continues with traditional concert series Church Holidays in the Land of Mary in the historical churches of Estonia. The concerts in the Holy Week will offer excellent music with the program Stabat Mater which is a soulful piece describing the world through the eyes of a suffering mother. When mostly in Christianity god is a masculine figure then Stabat Mater as well as Magnificat are some of the few texts in which deity has a feminine perspective. The title piece of the concert is famous Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. The charming solos and duets will be performed by soprano Pirjo Jonas from Theater Vanemuine and countertenor Ivo Posti who has now returned back from Netherlands and operates here as the head of a Narva Museum.

On Good Friday and Holy Saturday Corelli Baroque Orchestra and conductor Martin Sildos will bring the program STABAT MATER to the audience. Our guests will hear the beautiful music written by the baroque composers for the time of suffering. Stabat Mater is a medieval text in Latin. It portrays Mary’s suffering as Jesus Christ's mother during his crucifixion.
“Can we find a stronger human connection than the one between mother and child? Isn’t the suffering shared in love even bigger? The Holy Week which is marked with suffering and death – the symbol of key questions of human life – leads us to the pain and joy of Resurrection Sunday.”, says the patron of these series and the president of Estonian Council of Churches, The Archbishop Emeritus Andres Põder in the introduction of this concert.
In addition the program includes Orchestral Suite No 2 in B minor by J. S. Bach, flute solo will be
