CHRISTMAS MUSIC FESTIVAL „CHURCH HOLIDAYS IN ST MARY'S LAND“
25 November – 29 December 2011
Christmas
festival offers wonderful musical experiences for the whole month of Christmas
expectation, from the First Sunday of Advent in late November until the last
days of the year.
In 2010,
Corelli Music extended its well-known concert series “Church Holidays in St Mary's Land” to a Christmas music
festival, which spans the entire period of Christmas expectation, from the
First Sunday of Advent in late November until the last days of the year.
Through the contemporary musicians, the festival brings the colour and mood of
distant times to modern people – just as the old masters could have heard this
music in their lifetime in churches and castles. In addition to top-class
musical experience, the festival also offers aesthetic and historic values.
Both professional musicians and young musicians, just getting started on their
musical career path, and boys' choirs perform in the concerts.
On 25 and
27 November, the concerts of beginning Christmas expectation, the First Sunday
of Advent, will open the festival and introduce organ, the king of musical
instruments. Opening concerts of the festival “Advent Time with New Organs”
will introduce wonderful new organs in Estonian churches. Andres Uibo will make
a beautiful selection of organ music on the new organs of St Elizabeth's
Lutheran Church in Pärnu and United Methodist Church in Tallinn, which only
recently received a new organ. The concert also features countertenor Ka Bo
Chan and violinist Mail Sildos. The following Advent concerts, which take place
on 17–18 December, will bring holiday spirit to manors and Toompea music longe
where the young singers' ensemble Chillin will offer spectacular Christmas
programme with exciting sounds. In cosy candle light, one can enjoy settings of
well-known Christmas songs, sung with the youthful spunk. The year will end
with the concerts of traditional brilliant large scale works that have
fascinated audiences for years. On 28 and 29 December, the festival closing
concerts “The Christmas Story with
Boys' Choirs” will bring Schütz's festive Christmas works “Magnificat” and “Weihnachtshistorie” to churches in
Tartu and Tallinn by affectionate musicians: St Michael's and Kalev's boys'
choirs, Corelli Baroque Orchestra on period instruments, soloists and the young
conductor Martin Sildos.
