It
has become a tradition that the agency Corelli Music introduces the
Holy Week with beautiful Passion music under the church vaults. The
concerts titled PASSION
in renowned series "Church Holidays in St Mary's Land" will
introduce countertenor Ka
Bo Chan
and Corelli
Baroque Orchestra
on period instruments, led by young conductor Martin
Sildos.
The concerts will take place on Saturday, 12 April at St John's
Church in Tartu and on Palm Sunday, 13 April at St John's Church in
Tallinn. The programme presents countertenor, a mystical sounding
type of voice. This charming male voice will perform lovely works by
baroque masters: solo cantatas „Wiederstehe doch der Sünde" BWV
54 and „Vergnügte Ruh', beliebte Seelenlust" BWV 170 by Johann
Sebastian Bach and motet „Filiae
maestae Jerusalem" RV 638 by Antonio Vivaldi. Additionally, the
concert programme includes Passion-spirited orchestral works by
Baroque period composers.
The
Passion concerts feature the countertenor Ka Bo Chan as a soloist.
The brilliant musician was born in Hong Kong, at age 17 he started
studying singing and choral conducting in Portland, USA.
In
1997, he came to Estonia through the invitation of Veljo Tormis,
continued to study at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre,
started a family in Estonia and now works as a freelance musician. He
has collaborated with many Estonian conductors, soloists, choirs and
orchestras, concerts often take him to stages and festivals outside
Estonia. His repertoire as a countertenor ranges from early music to
the works of contemporary composers.
