Music presents wonderful Christmas time with beautiful music in churches of Tartu and Tallinn, in
manors and music lounges over Estonia!
For the fourth year the audience will be delighted by the Christmas music
festival "Church Holydays in St Mary's
Land", which lasts throughout the long holiday season from the First
Sunday of Advent in the beginning of December over the end of the year until
the festive New Year's Concert in January.
The
festival programme consists of concerts "The
Advent Evening", "Waiting for
Christmas", "Messiah"
and "Into the New Year with Corelli's
Baroque Sparkle", all of them offer great musical experiences. The
performers include Virgo Veldi on saxophone and Ulla Krigul on
organ, the choirs of Estonian Chamber Choirs' Society, baroque ensemble Corelli
Consort, brilliant vocal soloists, chamber choir Voces Musicales, Corelli
Baroque Orchestra, conductors Anssi Mattila (Finland) and Martin
Sildos.
OPENING CONCERT: The First Sunday of Advent

PROGRAMME: "The Advent Evening" (Kõrvits, A. Kapp, Grigorjeva, Christmas music)

The musicians wish to bring the audience into the season of advent, give
some time for reflection over the ending year and offer beautiful moments for those,
who love the combo of organ and saxophone. Mostly Estonian music will be
performed at the spirited and gripping advent concert: including Galina
Grigorjeva's "The Prayer" ("Molitva"), Artur Kapp's "Prelude", Tõnu Kõrvits'
"Chorales of Thule" (Three Folk Songs) and wonderful Christmas music.

For
the first time the traditional "Waiting for Christmas" concerts of
Estonian
Chamber Choirs' Society offer brilliant music from baroque era. The
beautiful
concerts will see the collaboration of the society's choirs from
Tallinn, Tartu and Southern Estonia, joined by the soloists of Corelli
Baroque Orchestra, specialising in early music, and conducted by Martin
Sildos.
This will be the first known performance of
Pergolesi's/Durante's "Magnificat" in Estonia.

Georg Friedrich Handel finished "Messiah", his most popular work, in 1741 and despite
its low success at first performance it has become one of the most famous
oratorial compositions in the world. The audience especially enjoys its
beautiful arias and powerful choirs. "Messiah"
will be performed on period instruments and the conductor Anssi Mattila is one
of the greatest expert of this field in Finland:
he is the leader of early music programme at Sibelius Academy,
an organist and harpsichordist.
