At the opening concerts pieces by Estonian classics, composers
from the Land of Mary (Lembit Avesson, Roman Toi, Arvo Pärt, Hugo Lepnurm) will
be performed, and by Johann Sebastian Bach, whom they greatly admired.
Beautiful concerts introduce both organs in St Paul’s and St Michael’s
churches.

The programme of the anticipation of Christmas consists of 13th century Spanish
songs to Virgin Mary, from the „Cantigas de
Santa Maria“ manuscripts, performed by ensemble Rondellus. These songs are
about the miraculous deeds of the Virgin Mary, musicians intruduce the pieces
in the concerts as well. Little Rogosi manor school was the supported manor in
the charity concert series „Estonian
Manors 2015“. With the donations from these series the school bought musical
instruments, local children from the manor school will perform on them now as
well.

The year will end with traditionally radiant large scale
works in St. John’s Churches in Tartu and Tallinn. These concerts have
captivated the audience already for 10 years. Händel’s most popular oeuvre „Messiah” was written in
1741 and has become the most famous oratorio in the world. Especially enjoyable
are the beautiful arias and powerful choir parts, that tell the most important
story of the Virgin Mary – baby Jesus being born. This distinctive piece is
most suitable to finish the “Eight
centuries of the land of Mary“ festivities
and ending the Year of Music 2015.

A new ensemble Intonacio will give its debut concert performing
a wonderful program of renaissance music (Gabrieli, Monteverdi, Palestrina,
a.o.). Born in Hongkong, now living and working in Estonia, the countertenor Ka
Bo Chan has formed a new vocal ensemble together with Kaarel Telgmaa
(countertenor), Aleksander Arder (tenor), Rihards Zariņš (tenor), Rasmus
Erismaa (baritone) and Andres Alamaa (bass).
